PC-GA DAY NOVEMBER 11, 2017

PHILADELPHIA--This year marked the 131st football game played between Germantown Academy and William Penn Charter, making it the oldest consecutively played prep school rivalry in the country. To put this day into perspective, the very first GA/PC day happened in 1887, as an Inter-Ac League football championship playoff game between the two schools.

Fast forward to 2017, this tradition has morphed into an event all its own. Golf, tennis, cross-country, soccer, water polo and field hockey were added to the mix some 26 plus-years ago. The two schools compete for the rights of the “Competition Cup,” which is awarded to the school who wins the most events throughout the day.

This year, the Patriots were awarded the “Competition Cup” by finishing in a 5-5 tie with Penn Charter. In the case of a tie, the school that one the Cup the previous year retains it.

"The GA-PC is a spirited rivalry is like no other," said Germantown Academy's Director of Athletics Josh MacArthur. "I’d like to thank the Penn Charter community for their hospitality on Saturday. The enthusiasm and sportsmanship of our community was unmatched. Holding on to the Competition Cup is a testament to the commitment, hard work, and dedication of our student-athletes and coaches. Ultimately, what carries the day is the tremendous support from our alumni, students, parents and faculty."
